OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project) is a worldwide not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving security in software. OWASP is open for anyone to take part in, and makes all of their material available under an open software license. OWASP offers materials such as articles and guides, and a regularly updated top 10 list of the most critical web application security risks.

OWASP was started in September 2001 by Mark Curphey. The OWASP Foundation, a charitable organisation intended to support OWASP projects, was founded in 2004.
