The World Wide Web (or the web) is the system used to access pages stored on the internet over the HTTP protocol. The web is the information sharing portion of the internet, with the shared pages accessed using web browsers. There are many billions of pages on the web, meaning that people usually find what they are looking for with the aid of search engines which index many of those pages for easy future reference.
The web was created in 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee.
The web is not the same as the internet, although they are often used interchangeably.
